Rock and Roll Hall of Fame issues

If you want to look at the entire list, it's here:

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

Now that I've had more time to think about it and to
look over who's listed and who's not, I have to agree --
while it's 80-90% correct, there're certainly people on
it I would take off, and people I'd add.

There're artists I'm not sure that I myself would add, but
earned enough popularity as well as quality.

1. Perhaps part of the problem is that although it's called
a Hall of "Fame" -- we assume it means Hall of Quality.
But these are not necessarily the same thing.

However, if a given artist is popular enough, shouldn't
they be added due to the "Fame" part?

2. There's a real question of just what is rock and roll.
As I mentioned in prior post, Miles Davis was a jazz
genius and certainly should be in any Jazz Hall of Fame --
but not rock and roll.

Yet there's a definate bias in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
for rhythm and blues/soul artists. There's certainly a link
between that form of music and rock and roll -- and
certainly an overlap.

And certainly pop music of that period included both
white rock and roll and soul artists, especially from
Motown. My local station in St Louis played all the
top songs from everybody.

Still, I think the concept of rock and roll was definately
stretched in some cases.

Maybe it's justified in that there is NO "soul" or "rhythm and
blues" hall of fames, at least in Google.

And not all the bias is toward African-American artists (who
are good in their own genres) -- why are Bobby Darin, Johnny
Cash and Dion in it?

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I'm referring only to
the "Performers" section of the Hall of Fame. Of course
the "Early Influences" will not be rock and roll
themselves.
