106.5 the Arch

A new radio station has popped up in St Louis,
called the Arch. An obvious name which no other
station ever thought of before, for some reason.

They've become fairly popular very rapidly for
doing something else that seems obvious but
which is sort of revolutionary -- they refuse to
play the same song twice in the same day.

In this era of radio stations all programmed by
a large corporation to play the same 40 or 50
songs every day -- that's a breakthrough that's
really got them attention.

To keep the time filled, they play -- "70s, 80s
and whatever we want."

Whatever they want can include 90s and modern
stuff. So you do hear a broad range of music,
most of it good stuff. It's mostly "oldies"
of 70s and 80s, though.

One other good thing about the station -- they
play a number of songs in a row. This cuts
commercial breaks to a minimum, though makes
them longer when they happen.

I have little patience anymore for talking on
the radio unless it's talk radio (which I like) --
but commercials, traffic reports, Hi, I'm so and
so blah blah blah -- I hit the button to move
to a new station.

So I enjoy when I land on the Arch, it's playing
a good song and keeps playing them a long time
before going to commercials.

Unfortunately, all to often I land on the Arch,
hear 3 seconds of a good song, then it's over
and they start the commercial break -- and I
have to keep hitting the tuner button.
