On car donations

It's amazing how big a business car donation to charities is now. I guess the charities must make a lot of money from it, so they're advertising in newspapers and online for people to donate cars to them. Or maybe it's just especially visible now because it's Christmas. On the other hand, how many people think of Christmas as a time to buy a new car? And that's what you must be doing when you donate an old car to a charity, at least in the vast majority of cases. Yet January is a slow month for sales of cars. So is December, I'm pretty sure, since cars aren't typical Christmas presents.
