On Wilmington NC real estate

Somewhere, I left behind my copy of WINTER MOON by Dean R Koontz, yet I'm not sad about it. And that's not good, because I was close to the end. But somehow I just wasn't enjoying it as I usually do his stuff. I'm not sure why. But the family was about to go outside in the Montana snow to try to get their neighbors to help them against the alien threatening them, but I really doubted the neighbors would help. Yes, they knew a little bit of the old man who'd first encountered the alien, but not enough to believe such a weird story. And how could they help, anyway? How do you kill such an alien? Use the arsenal of weapons they have on hand? Possibly effective since the alien is a physical being, meaning it can be destroyed, but not emotionally satisfying. And why did it set down in Montana? Why not in some Wilmington NC real estate?
