On Michael Kors

I recently finished reading an interesting thriller crime novel by James Patterson and Peter de Jonge, Beach House. It is good at describing the area known as the Hamptons, Montauk New York, where there's a combination of extremely wealthy people such as might buy Michael Kors and the local townspeople who get by either from the ocean or providing services to the wealthy. I had heard of The Hamptons without knowing anything about it particularly. I didn't even know it was only a two and a half hour train ride from Long Island, so it's easy to get there from New York City.

On modern furniture

I have to admit that I have mixed feelings about modern furniture. I'm sure that there must be many kinds for all kinds of tastes and styles, but the phrase itself calls to mind tubular steel constructions and garish designs like you see in movies. Things that would look good hosting a science fictional cocktail party, but nothing that makes you feel relaxed and comfortable and hanging around to watch TV or talk to your family and friends while drinking a beer. Of course, that's not fair. Only certain kinds of people want that minimalist styles. From the homes of wealthy people I see and have been in, they like furniture that is decorative and looks rich but would still be comfortable to sit down in.
