On first environmental products

I recall first hearing about environmental products when the youth director at my church signed up for Amway, and mentioned them in some context, though of course only in regard to the benefit for ecology, which we were beginning to be big on in those days. It may have been fairly soon after the first Earth Day April 1970, when a bunch of us kids rode bikes to school. Of course, doing it one day and not any others didn't affect the environment very much. It apparently didn't delay alleged global warming. I don't know how much Amway's products have helped with the environment either. Nobody cares about phosphates in detergents any more. That's too dull compared to global warming.

This company is doing a lot more than using the concept to sell its soap products. It offers a wide variety of eco-friendly products, from cleaning supplies to solar power, lighting, furniture, a hand-cranked flashlight, juice bags and electrical monitors to make sure that your use of electricity is efficient.

One thing that's neat is a compost bin. I used to garden organically a long time ago, and in those days a compost heap with a big pile of dirt and who knows what else in your backyard next to the garden itself. And they were rumored to breed rats, though I never noticed this problem. But you had to just throw a lot of stuff onto the pile and then wait for nature to take its course, to break down the organic substances and turn them into rich soil. Then they came out with compost bins that helped speed this up and of course keep the smell down. But they're usually ugly. So now this company sells one that is actually an attractive addition to your backyard, as well as quickly turning your table scraps and other organic substances into rich soil for your organic garden.
